Detectives in Kenya have launched thorough investigations into the sudden death of the country’s interior minister, Joseph Nkaissery.
Nkaissery, 67, died a few hours on Saturday morning after being admitted at a Nairobi hospital, according to government officials.
Both the minister’s Nairobi home in Hardy, Karen estate and Bomas of Kenya have been cordoned to crosscheck any traces that may be linked to the minister’s death.
The minister was last seen at Bomas of Kenya on Friday night before proceeding to his home.
“Some of our colleagues have been sent to the CS’s home and the lounge in Bomas to keep watch as investigations proceed,” an officer from Hardy police station said.
The minister was last seen in public at National Prayer Rally on Friday.
On Friday, Nkaissery accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta at Uhuru Park grounds for the Saba Saba prayers before holding a series of meetings at his Harambee House office in the afternoon.
According to a family source at the minister’s home in Karen, Nkaissery went to bed unusually early on Friday after he complained of “fatigue”.
